NaBloPoMo Day 10
Now, I know it sounds shallow. Parties. Let me tell you a little secret to how my outlook was drastically improved yesterday:
After a very tough slog at work where I have been over analyzing every conversation and trying my best to represent my team's point of view in leadership meetings, I arrived home for the weekend very exhausted, almost to the breaking point. But... I had promised to help Husband and Big T host a football party on Sunday afternoon. The huge rivalry game between the Vikings and the Packers was slated for noon, giving Big T the chance to invite friends and their families to cheer for the Pack, while Husband tried to stack the invitation list with Vikes fans. Really, with the cleaning crew coming on Thursday and a big Costco run on Saturday, there wasn't that much prep work to do. But still, I was mulling and reviewing the frustrations of the work week right up until the doorbell rang.
Which was the turning point. We welcomed a houseful of fans: adults who grazed on snacks and cheered in the family room, kids who played in the basement amusement room and outdoors; Moms like me who chatted and snacked in the kitchen rather than paying attention to the score. We had a grand time catching up and in fact, while other guests arrived and departed, us non-sports fans talked well into the evening.
I found myself nearly humming as I put away leftover food and wiped down the kitchen counters. Husband noticed right away that I was feeling more like myself. We always remark on how glad we are to have held the football party, he observed.
So I don't know whether to say I'm grateful for the friends and family who came, for Husband's insistence on holding the party, or for parties in general. Either way, it worked. And I'm glad.
